Inside Diamond Schools – Post 16 Open Day
October 23 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Event Navigation
Inside Diamond Schools is a series of events aimed at A-level or equivalent students, welcoming them to Diamond Light Source to meet our scientists, find out about the exciting work taking place here, and have a tour of the synchrotron itself.
It’s hoped that by visiting Diamond, students will learn more about the practical application of their studies and it will stir their interest in science and engineering, perhaps encouraging them towards further study.
A visit will take approximately 2-2.5 hours and will consist of:
- An introductory talk
- A guided tour – including a trip to see inside the synchrotron and our laboratories (please note that extensive walking will be involved)
- An opportunity to talk to Diamond employees and ask them about their work and the facility
The next in-person school visit day is Wednesday 23rd October 2024. The session start times are 10:00, 11:30, 13:00 and 14:30. Attendance at these open days is via ballot entry only*. The closing date for ballot entries for this visit date is Friday 13th September 2024.
Due to the nature of the facility, we can only accommodate a limited number of ‘in-person’ visitors and to ensure that many schools can participate, we limit tickets to 24 people per booking (includes students and staff). As in-person events are usually oversubscribed, we operate a random ballot for places. Furthermore, to ensure Diamond reaches diverse audiences, we ensure that at least 50% of schools offered tickets are non-fee paying state schools.
* Diamond offers these open days free of charge to schools.
If you are unable to attend the Open Day in-person, it is possible to arrange individual class virtual visits at a time to suit you and your class. Available for Key Stages 1-5 and lasting approximately 45 minutes, the session includes a talk/tour of Diamond and gives students the opportunity to ask our experts any questions they may have.
