CSED Hackathon 2024
April 19 @ 8:45 am - 5:30 pm
Event Navigation
The UCL CSED (Centre for Space, Exochemistry Data), co-hosted with STFC DiRAC and UCL Data Intensive Science & Industry (DISI), is organising an in-person CSED hackathon that invites participants to work as a team and extract vital signals of exoplanets from simulated observations provided by mission experts involved in the ESA Ariel mission. Your innovative ideas will help towards our on going efforts to understand the nature of extrasolar planets and the conditions for life to emerge.
In addition to working on a challenging problem in a fun and dynamic environment (lunch and snacks are provided), we have also invited Professor Ofer Lahav (Vice-Dean (International) of UCL Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences) and Luís Simões (Lead Data Scientist and co-founder at ML Analytics) to share their experiences in applying machine learning in Space Science from both academic and industrial perspectives.
Participation is free and open to individuals from various educational backgrounds and professions, including students, PhDs, researchers, and working professionals across all disciplines and universities, so whether you are data scientists, machine learning gurus, astronomers, passionate astronomy students or just machine learning amateurs, you are more than welcome to join us! Our experience tells us that a great solution is more likely to present itself with a good mixture of expertise, so don’t feel pressured to possess all the knowledge beforehand!
Join either as an individual or a pre-formed team (5 people max). You will be allocated into a team of 4 – 5 people on the day. Places are limited so secure your spot asap if interested.
