UK Launches Facility to Boost Small Satellite Calibration for Earth Observation
A new Small Satellite Calibration Facility has been launched to enhance the UK’s Earth Observation (EO) sector. Developed through a collaboration between the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) RAL Space and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the facility will support the growing number of start-ups and SMEs involved in small satellite development. It provides affordable, world-class calibration services for satellite instruments, which are crucial for accurate Earth Observation data. The facility, located at the Harwell Campus, is part of the UK Government’s £200M Earth Observation Investment Package, and aims to help address global challenges like climate change. The initiative will lower barriers for new companies and improve the reliability of satellite missions.
