For the next Harwell Book Club in collaboration with Be Free Young Carers, we’ll be discussing Be More Pirate by Sam Conniff.
Join us in Quad Two at 12:15 on Tuesday 15th July.
Be More Pirate is a bold, energetic call to arms that blends history with modern-day rebellion. Drawing on the radical tactics of Golden Age pirates – not just as swashbuckling criminals, but as innovators, disruptors, and social reformers. By comparing pirate legends like Henry Morgan and Blackbeard with today’s rule-breakers such as Elon Musk, Malala, and Banksy, Conniff builds a compelling case for rewriting the rules when the system is broken.
Packed with mischief, purpose, and power, the book urges readers to stop waiting for permission and start making meaningful change. It’s not about chaos for chaos’s sake – it’s about principled rebellion and the courage to challenge injustice.
How It Works
Sign Up: Register to join the book club on the Member of the Future app by Tuesday 10th June (you may register after this date but we can’t guarantee a book).
Collect Your Book: We’ll provide the book. Simply pick it up from Quad Two reception from Tuesday 20th May.
Read & Discuss: You’ll have about 6 weeks to read the book before we meet for our discussion over lunch in Quad Two on Tuesday 15th July. We’ll provide pizza, or feel free to bring your own lunch. Each session will last for 45 minutes.
About Be Free Young Carers:
Based on campus, Be Free Young Carers is the only charity in Oxfordshire dedicated to supporting children aged 8–17 with caregiving responsibilities for a family member. They’re passionate about learning and growing through books, and can’t wait to connect with other readers on campus.
The book club will be led by Hannah, one of their fundraisers. If you love discussing business and self-development books, we want to see you there.
