RAL Talking Science: Designing for Deep Space – Ariel’s Amazing Engineering

February 20, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for a fascinating talk as part of Talking Science, a series of free talks for the public – breaking down the barriers to science.

Date: Friday 20 February 2026

Time: 19:00 – 20:00

Venue: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Campus, Fermi Avenue

Cost: Free

Get ready for a cool adventure into space and science! Join engineers working on the Ariel space mission as they share how we explore far away planets (exoplanets) and why we need super cold technology (cryogenics) to do it.

You’ll take part in a fun quiz, watch an amazing liquid nitrogen demonstration, and discover how STFC helps make these space missions possible.

After the talk, head to the Visitor Centre for hands-on activities and workshops all themed around Ariel and space. It’s going to be a blast – science has never been so cool!

Tickets for in-person events close the night before the event. If you would like to book an in-person last-minute place, please email the team.
