NHS Highland and Digostics Launch World-First Home Diabetes Screening for Patients with Cystic Fibrosis
NHS Highland and Digostics have partnered to introduce the world’s first home-based oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) for cystic fibrosis diabetes (CFD) screening. This groundbreaking service, called GTT@home, allows patients in remote areas to complete vital diabetes screening from home—eliminating the need for long-distance travel and reducing hospital visits.
Why It Matters:
- CFD is a common complication in people with cystic fibrosis, requiring annual OGTT screening.
- Traditional OGTTs are complex and typically require in-clinic visits or clinician travel.
- GTT@home simplifies the process with a home test kit, multilingual instructions, and real-time support.
- The pilot was well received, improving patient comfort and access to timely care.
This marks a global first in routine CFD screening and builds on GTT@home’s success in gestational diabetes testing. It’s also being piloted for Type 1 diabetes screening in infants and adolescents across the UK, Europe, and North America.
