DESCRIPTION:Join us for an adventure with outdoor nature play\, crafts and stories for toddlers on our beautiful nature reserve at Sutton Courtenay. \nNature Tots – Sutton Courtenay\, Saturday 26 September (Morning) Tickets\, Saturday 26 September  •  9:30 AM – 11 AM | Eventbrite \n\n\n\n\nJoin our friendly Nature Tots staff and volunteers to explore the nature reserve and enjoy wildlife themed activities suitable for children aged 18 months to 4 years. We have a different theme each month – e.g. mini-beasts\, dinosaurs or weather\, and every session includes wildlife exploration\, sensory play\, stories and crafts. We start with child-led play and then come together for a story (it’s a good idea to bring a snack and a drink for your child to eat at this point\, we provide tea and coffee for grown ups) and usually some singing before we move on to a few extra activities\, often including a craft. A lovely way to spend quality time in the great outdoors with your child. \nPlease note activities will take place outdoors – dress for the weather! In winter we may head into the centre for the second half of the session to warm up with a story and crafts by the stove\, but we always start outdoors. \nYou only need to book a place for your child\, not for the accompanying adult. It’s fine to bring baby siblings along\, they do not need a ticket. \nPlease note the centre is accessible by public transport with regular buses (including connection to Didcot Parkway railway station) serving Milton Park\, a few minutes walk from the centre.

DESCRIPTION:Languages at Lunch have launched their Autumn schedule of online language courses starting Monday 21st September and bookings are now open. \nGroups are fun and interactive\, led by enthusiastic\, experienced tutors\, with plenty of chance to practice speaking the language you have chosen. \nChoose from Spanish\, French\, Italian\, German\, British Sign Language\, Mandarin\, and Japanese classes at all levels. \nSessions are run live online by our native tutors in a fun and informal style with plenty of chance to practice speaking in pairs or small groups. DESCRIPTION:Explore the summertime with an exciting nature trail around the reserve. \n\n\n\n\nCome on! There is so much to see on a nature reserve in summer! From the itty-bitty bugs to the towering trees\, this trail will lead you into the summery heart of the reserve. Collect your trail sheet then head out to explore. There will be a wild craft to make and take home too. Don’t miss our live summer storytelling session at 11:30am. Our quiet space with books and a sensory tray will be open in the classroom. \nThere is lots of space to play and picnic\, bring a packed lunch and make a day of it. Hot drinks and squash available\, small cash donation appreciated. Suitable for families with children aged 4 to 11 years (younger siblings may also attend and do not need a ticket). All children must be accompanied by an adult. The event runs from 10am-2pm\, please arrive at a time that suits you within that window\, last entry 1pm. DESCRIPTION:Experiment\, discover and have fun at our monthly Science Club for ages 5-9. \n\n\n\n\nGo gooey for slime this summer! Discover the fascinating world of plastic and make natural polymers at this month’s club. Plastic is everywhere\, but what is it – and can we help our world by understanding more about it? We’re all tackling pollution by re-using\, recycling and reducing\, but it’s our young scientists of tomorrow who will invent new ways to help protect the environment. In this fun session we’ll flash the plastic and investigate the chemistry of this sticky substance\, produce polymers from milk and get stuck in with slime. \nSuitable for ages 5-9 (accompanied by an adult) \nSessions: \n10am – 11.30am \n12.30pm – 2pm \n3pm – 4.30pm \nSuitable for ages 5-9 (accompanied by an adult) \n£15 per club ticket (includes Eventbrite booking fee. To date Uptonogood? has raised and distributed £117\,118.00. \nAlmost entirely off-road\, the cycle routes wind their way through the beautiful North Wessex Downs\, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty encompassing the Ridgeway and surrounding bridleways. \nUptonogood? offers five routes devised to cater for all ages and abilities: \n\n6 mile Little Wheels ride\n14 mile Family ride\n19 mile Teen Spirit ride\n25 mile Leisure ride\n35 mile Endurance ride\n\nPlease see maps and route descriptions. Download our Poster or Flyer and help spread the word. \nAll the rides start and finish in Upton village where besides the cycling there will be fun and frolics for all the family\, including a well stocked beer tent\, BBQ\, tea/coffee and cakes\, pump track\, and adventure playground. We’ll also have live music from The Marching Skaletons\, The Reverend Ferriday\, and The Outlyers\, interspersed by our now resident DJ Count Skylarkin. \nPlease note that Uptonogood? is not a race. It is conducted on public rights of way which remain open to all users. DESCRIPTION:A 2-day training course covering theory and computer-based practical works using the XDigitalVolumeCorrelation extension in the Thermo Scientific Amira-Avizo Software 3D where two solutions are implemented. \nDate: Wednesday 10 June – Thursday 11 June 2026 \nTime: 09:00 – 17:00 \nVenue: Hamilton Room\, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Visitor Centre\, Harwell Campus \nCost: £400 +VAT for academics\, students\, postdocs and government\, £800 +VAT for industry. \nDigital Volume Correlation (DVC) is a powerful experimental technique that computes 3D full-field displacement and strain maps from volumes images acquired during a deformation process of a material. DVC is the 3D extension of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) which was first described four decades ago. The emergence of DVC started early 2000s with the use of X-ray CT combined with in situ rigs to capture 3D morphological changes with time. Although the DVC algorithms are in spirit similar to DIC algorithms\, DVC requires special attention and expertise from multiple fields (3D imaging\, in situ testing\, CT reconstruction\, mechanics of materials\, etc.) as the texture is not controlled (natural contrast brought by imaging) and the noise/CT artefacts are often dominating the accuracy/precision of the measurements. Adding the 4th dimension (3D + time) also means that data processing and visualization are key to extract the mechanical information hidden inside the 4D datasets. \nThe training is organised in two parts: theory (0.5 day) and computer-based practical works (1.5 day) using the XDigitalVolumeCorrelation extension in the Thermo Scientific™ Amira-Avizo Software 3D where two solutions are implemented (a classic subset based approach and a more robust global approach). At the end of the second day\, the users are invited to practise on their own dataset with the help of the trainers. \n  \n\nRegister here\n\n  \nCourses generally fill up very quickly and places are allocated on a first come first serve basis. If there is low attendance\, a course may be cancelled with a month’s notice.

SUMMARY:D-Day Commemoration Service
DESCRIPTION:This year’s annual D-Day Commemoration service will be held on Saturday 6th June at the Harwell Memorial Stone located on the campus at the new Memorial Garden (OX11 0PW – W3W ///bitter.path.runways). \nThe stone marks the departure point for those servicemen who were amongst the first to land in Europe on D-Day. A short service will be held to recognise the efforts of those servicement. \nAssembly at the stone commences at 17:00 and the service starts at 17:15. \nAll are welcome to attend.
