About us

Harwell Innovation Centre opened in 2000 with support from the UK Atomic Energy Authority. The site has a long history of scientific innovation and entrepreneurship stretching back to its foundation as an airbase during World War II, when it was the test site for several military innovations. Under the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the site became the centre of the civil nuclear program, with over 6,000 people working here in the late 1950s.

Harwell Innovation Centre, on the Harwell Oxford Campus near Abingdon, opened in 2000 with support from the UK Atomic Energy Authority. The site has a long history of scientific innovation and entrepreneurship stretching back to its foundation as an airbase during World War II, when it was the test site for several military innovations. Under the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the site became the centre of the civil nuclear program, with over 6,000 people working there in the late 1950s.
Today, the campus has been rebranded as Harwell Oxford and is being developed by a joint venture between the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and international property group Goodman. Harwell Campus is a world leading hub for science, technology and business, boasting the Diamond Light Source, the largest UK-funded scientific facility to be built for over 40 years. In this innovation ecosystem, established academics and entrepreneurial start-ups, big science and big business all work side by side, supported by world class scientific facilities.

The Harwell Innovation Centre plays a key role in the innovation ecosystem in Oxfordshire - with just over 25,000 sq ft of office space and accommodation ranging from 100 sq ft to 1,700 sq ft. The Centre has developed the business facilities and commercial infrastructure to support over 60 companies, each with between 1 and 20 employees.

Serviced offices are available to let at short notice and our flexible approach means businesses can take more space within the Innovation Centre as they expand. The on-site meeting and conference rooms are ideal for client appointments and presentations and there’s a welcoming reception desk where guests are greeted and booked in by professional receptionists.
